It was noted that MP Gebran Bassil, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, chose to step back from his political activities and travel abroad instead of offering condolences to the leadership of Hezbollah following the assassination of prominent commander Fouad Shokr by Israel in a Beirut bombing. Unlike the notable personal attendance of former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt and Marada movement leader Sleiman Frangieh, Bassil opted to limit his response to a formal condemnation statement issued by his movement.
