Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt said: "We are counting on President Nabih Berri's efforts to achieve a serious ceasefire in southern Lebanon with the assistance of US envoy, Amos Hochstein.
This ceasefire should be based on conditions that restore Lebanon’s full sovereignty over its territory. We support President Berri, and Hochstein contacted me yesterday warning me from any operation that could lead to an escalation. I advised him that it is better to focus on managing the ceasefire than to deliver a threat from Israel."
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Jumblatt responded to a question by saying: "Hezeb is not alien to the Lebanese nature and the Lebanese people. Hezeb is a Lebanese resistance group. How can there be an operation against Hezeb without affecting Lebanon? Hezeb is part of Lebanon. We have had enough of these new Orientalist theories."
