Netanyahu: New Conditions and Warnings

placeholder

“Lebanon Debate”

Attention has focused on the recent quadripartite meeting held in Rome, Italy, to discuss an Israeli proposal for a possible agreement involving a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner exchange between Israel and the Palestinian resistance.

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Mahmoud Taha, Hamas’s media relations official in Lebanon, commented, "The meeting in Rome was merely for show and did not involve serious negotiations. It is evident that the Israeli enemy is not interested in reaching a truce, especially since Netanyahu continues to play with time and evade substantial discussion, a tactic that is clear to everyone, including the Israeli public."

Taha further criticized, "Netanyahu consistently tries to derail these negotiations with the support of the US administration. On the other hand, Hamas and the Palestinian resistance have demonstrated flexibility and a willingness to reach an agreement. However, Netanyahu has no intention of ending the massacres, crimes, and ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza."

He highlighted, "Netanyahu’s new conditions for the deal are unacceptable. For example, he demands a list of the names of living resistance prisoners and insists on maintaining control over the Philadelphia Route and the Netzarim axis, effectively seeking to divide northern Gaza from the south. These conditions are seen as obstacles to the negotiations. Even if Hamas were to agree to these terms, Netanyahu would likely introduce new conditions to block progress."

Taha warned, "If the negotiations continue in this manner, Netanyahu will return us to square one. Hamas might eventually abandon the negotiation process if the Israeli stance remains intransigent and if the negotiations are merely a pretext to delay until the US elections and the arrival of Netanyahu’s ally, Trump."

In conclusion, Taha cautioned, "Hamas may cease negotiations if there is no genuine effort from the Israeli side to reach a truce. We call on the Egyptian and Qatari mediators to publicly declare that Netanyahu is responsible for the failure to reach an agreement every time."
