FBI Director Chris Wray informed lawmakers that the man who attempted to kill former President Donald Trump had researched online how Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated former President John F. Kennedy.
In his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Wray revealed that Thomas Crooks had "intensely focused on President Trump and his campaign rally" since around July 6.
It is noteworthy that former U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated during a motorcade in Dallas in 1963 by a sniper later identified as Lee Harvey Oswald.
Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired a rifle at Trump just minutes after the former Republican president and current presidential candidate began speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
A Secret Service sharpshooter killed Crooks 26 seconds after he fired his initial eight shots.
Investigators determined that Crooks, who lived about 80 kilometers from Butler, acted alone and did not display any strong ideological or political affiliations.
