Ziad Aswad: Treason is when Actions don't Align with Words

Former MP Ziad Aswad commented today through his X account on statements made by FPM leader Gebran Bassil on Tuesday.

Aswad wrote: 'Treason isn't when someone fails to commit to a decision and violates principles for personal gain under the table, becoming your puppet. Treason is when actions don't align with words.'

He also argued that treason includes using someone while claiming honesty, rights, and honor. He concluded, 'The definition of treason needs no more explanation than this.'

Bassil had remarked in his speech yesterday, "We've had enough of treason".

He responded to questions about why such situations occur with his party, 'Because we have a lot of freedom and democracy, but boundaries have been exceeded. We adhere to the system and modify it as necessary, however, MPs should not only be elected based on a referendum but also on merit.'"
