“Lebanon Debate”
Retired Brigadier General Pilot Bassam Yassin expressed concerns about the escalating situation on the southern front, linking recent developments directly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visits to Washington and New York.
In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Yassin stated, "The evolving events in the south are closely tied to Netanyahu's diplomatic engagements. If there's a push to support Israel in launching military operations in southern Lebanon, we could see significant developments in the near future."
He emphasized, "The stance of the United States regarding Israeli support will determine whether the conflict escalates further. Despite positive reports from meetings in Cairo and Qatar, tensions persist, especially in Gaza."
Yassin warned, "The situation on the southern front may worsen, potentially leading to more violent bloodshed than we currently witness."
Regarding President Joe Biden's decision not to seek re-election, Yassin noted, "This is primarily a domestic matter with no direct impact on Lebanon."
He predicted, "While the United States may provide conditional support to Netanyahu, they will likely avoid endorsing a broader conflict that could escalate regionally, which is not in America's or Israel's interests."
Yassin also touched on Yemen's recent actions, expanding their objectives to include Israeli oil platforms in the Mediterranean and Red Sea. He emphasized, "All parties are wary of the conflict expanding regionally. American support for an expanded war effort by Israel would come with conditions, and the West will likely back Israel if it decides to engage in war."
