“Lebanon Debate”
Armed robberies are on the rise across various Lebanese regions, with the northern areas, particularly Tripoli and its surroundings, experiencing the highest frequency of such incidents. A recent incident involving a 20-year-old man highlights this troubling trend.
According to information obtained by "Lebanon Debate," the young man M.N. was riding in a taxi from the Tal area towards the port of Tripoli. The driver diverted to a side street in the Maarad neighborhood under the pretext of making a quick purchase. The driver then brandished a white weapon, assaulted the young man multiple times on his stomach, back, and leg, and stole his phone before throwing it onto the road.
The young man was promptly transported by a civilian vehicle to the government hospital in Qubbah, where his condition was reported as stable. Meanwhile, the driver fled the scene and is currently at large.
Security forces launched an investigation at the hospital to determine the circumstances of the incident and are actively pursuing the fugitive taxi driver to apprehend and question him.
