“Lebanon Debate”
Through the Minister of Education Abbas al-Halabi, the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) expressed its opposition in the ongoing deadlock in appointing of Chief of Staff Brigadier General Hassan Audi and promoting to the rank of Major General. The party also opposed the Defense Minister, Maurice Salim, who refuses to sign the decree appointing him. The PSP asks the Minister to carefully consider this, the same way he did back when he added another session to complete the number of soldiers in the military academy and raised it to 200.
The delay in signing the decree is hindering General Audi from fulfilling his mandated responsibilities, including the potential replacement of the army commander in case of a vacancy or during international travel.
Sources from socialist circles informed Lebanon Debate that the Defense Minister's stance on this matter, refusing to sign, poses a threat to the stability of the military institution.
They characterized today's session as a partial resolution, with Minister al-Halabi's objection being noted as a point of contention, while they await a positive decision from the Minister of Defense.
