“Lebanon Debate”

Opposition forces are continuously working to promote their roadmap aimed at resolving the presidential deadlock. Some Members of this bloc have met with other parliamentary blocs at the parliament headquarters, along with a delegation from the Independent National Bloc and Sidon MPs, and plan to continue their meetings with other blocs and MPs, including those representing the Shiite community.

In this context, MP Bilal Al-Hashimi confirmed in an interview with "Lebanon Debate" that the opposition is striving for positive change and development in the presidential file, as the country cannot afford a prolonged presidential vacuum and the current status quo, especially given Lebanon's weak relations with foreign countries and Arab states.

He emphasized that the opposition meetings have garnered positive responses and are opening up a broader space for discussion among parliamentary blocs. The MP also noted that the meeting held with Sidon's MPs on Tuesday was productive, with a convergence of ideas on the obstacles hindering the elections. The meeting with the Independent National Bloc also featured an exchange of viewpoints and candid discussions.

Al-Hashimi concluded, "We are not convinced by President Berri's motives for dialogue, especially since the dialogue in 2006 did not yield any results. Therefore, we should consult together in Parliament and reach a conclusion, rather than having an official dialogue table to establish a new precedent, such as dialogue before the presidential election."
