"Lebanon Debate"
Head of the Land Transport Union, Bassam Tlais, expressed his concern over the violations affecting the transportation sector, particularly regarding the widespread phenomenon of tuk-tuks. In an interview with "Lebanon Debate", he emphasized that there is currently no legislation regulating tuk-tuks, which have been imported and went through customs, categorized and registered as motorcycles by the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Ministry of Finance.
Tlais highlighted the urgent need for government security forces and relevant ministries to take action in regulating the presence of tuk-tuks in Lebanese territories. He emphasized the growing public outcry against their dangers and stressed, "Despite the official decree of the Beirut Municipal Council against the tuk-tuk phenomenon, they continue to spread on the streets, extending as far as Hamra and Achrafieh."
Furthermore, Tlais announced plans for an urgent meeting next Monday at the headquarters of the Public Workers Unions to address the tuk-tuk issue and other transportation matters. He expressed alarm that the tuk-tuk phenomenon is worsening day by day, urging the Prime Minister and concerned ministries to fulfill their duties in ensuring public and traffic safety.
