“Lebanon Debate”
During yesterday night's Council of Ministers meeting, rumors circulated regarding three potential issues discussed by the Prime Minister.
Firstly, the closure of the military faculty was considered.
Secondly, there was discussion about removing Army Commander General Joseph Aoun from his position.
Lastly, there were concerns raised about Minister of Defense Maurice Salim being bypassed, prompting a fundamental question: should the Taif Agreement be violated?
This question arises in light of the shift in procedural authority from the Presidency of the Republic to the collective Council of Ministers. Moreover, constitutional and legal powers entrusted to the Minister, including financial matters, have been highlighted.
This is especially pertinent as certain decrees, such as promotions of officers for over three years and appointments to the Supreme Judicial Council, remain pending without scrutiny or inquiry.
