أعربت وكالة الأمم المتحدة لغوث وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين الأونروا عن خيبة أملها ودهشتها لقرار واشنطن وقف تمويلها، ورفضت الاتهامات الأميركية الموجهة لها.
وكتب المتحدث باسم الأونروا كريس جانيس في سلسلة تغريدات عبر تويتر: "نرفض بأشد العبارات الممكنة انتقاد مدارس الأونروا ومراكزها الصحية وبرامجها للمساعدة في حالات الطوارئ بأنها "معيبة بشكل لا يمكن إصلاحه".
وأضاف أن القرار الأميركي مثير للدهشة ولاسيما بعد أن جددت الأونروا والولايات المتحدة في كانون الأوّل 2017 اتفاق التمويل الذي أقر بالإدارة الناجحة والمهنية للوكالة.
